There are many things. I try to simply keep my eyes open. To see when someone is in need and try to help if I can. To see the problems and address them instead of turning away. But one thing jumped out in my mind when I read this question: Recycle.

My husband is an avid recycler. And he has made me one too. I am a tree hugger of sorts and I find that the environment has become a big priority for me in recent years. Especially since the birth of my children. Suddenly I’m thinking of the sustainability of Earth not just for my lifetime or even the lifetime of my children. I’m thinking about my children’s children’s children! If we don’t start taking better care of this planet we live on, what will our great great great grandchildren inherit? And I love those little guys who don’t even exist yet already!

I remember being a kid in school and watching film strips in science class. I wonder if kids watch films on reels anymore? I doubt it. Anyway, I remember watching one of those films on the Earth and the solar system. And the narrator started to talk about how the sun was getting bigger and bigger and if it got too big it would render the Earth unlivable. That film scared the crap out of me and I was in 6th grade! Finally the narrator stated that the time frame they were looking at, which was a thousand years or so. I thought ‘Whew, at least it won’t happen in my lifetime’.

I don’t feel that relief anymore.

I worry about the environment and we pretty much recycle everything that can be at our house as well. Urchin we have notice it is hard to recycle in the US (well florida and south carolina). We camp with our trailer and we end up bringing so much back home with us, the guilt I have over throwing it in the trash is huge. I am hoping that helps

I also hope that by raising my children to give back to their community and teaching them to respect everyone, will help in our own small why to change the world as well.

I smile at strangers. I give sincere compliments to people I don’t even know. A strangers smile, a kind word, those two things can go a LONG way to changing the world. As a whole people have become so insular. Not really looking around at the world, other people, or even themselves. I try to counter act that. To send out feelers and nods, smiles, happy little things that can do a whole lot to turn a bad day around.
